Modder's Interview: Hater8
How long have you been modding and what was your first complete mod?
I made my first mod 18 years ago. The scary truth is that everyone's first mod is a chest in Seyda Neen with all the armor and weapons or a cheater modification of some sword. I chose the chest. Maybe someday I'll publish this mod.
How do you approach modding?
N'wahs and Mushrooms Team is a team after all. We work together, looking for new ideas, discussing them... Not really. Since I'm only a level designer and know a little bit about working with models, I go pester everyone until they make what I need, then combine it in the Construction Set.
I'm inspired by common sense, logic, Skywind, and Michael Kirkbride concepts. Also some fan art. For example, we made a Silt Strider based on fan art.
What’s your favourite mod that you’ve made so far?
I think this is our first mod, Dunmers ashpits. This is the one case where the mod fits perfectly (I hope) into the atmosphere of vanilla Morrowind. Nothing superfluous, a tiny detail. But the devil is in the details.
Is there a mod you are especially proud of?
That chest about I talking at the beginning interview. When I was able to make the mod myself and change the game, I was very happy and proud.
Are you working on a mod these days?
Yes, of course. But I don't like to make plans public. Keep an eye on the Nexusmods.
How much do you play Morrowind, not counting play testing?
Somedays I play for hundreds of hours, now I'm just testing. My dream is to just sit down and play Morrowind. But no, every time I find something I don't like, I go to Construction Set, and... ah sh*t, here we go again.
How did you discover Morrowind?
I was visiting a friend and saw him playing Morrowind. I was impressed with the game world and asked for the game disc. I never got this disc back. Forgive me, Igor.
What makes Morrowind special for you?
It must be a local religion. I don't know of another game where religion is so well-designed and influences the game world. When you realize that behind the mushrooms, insects, and perverted Curio there's a whole century of history that eventually ends with an escape to the moon and the revelation that it was all just a play in the theater... The metaphysics of Morrowind is its true soul.
Are there any underrated mods that you really enjoy?
Of course, these are all our mods! Well, maybe also this guy, Leyawynn, who does really cool stuff. I especially appreciate anything that brings the game closer to Kirkbride's concepts.
Do you play other games?
I'm a sonyboy, and I play almost all of the titles. My favorite games are Bloodborne and Cyberpunk 2077.
Do you mod other games?
I once made some armor models for Skyrim.
Anything else you’d like to share that we haven’t talked about?
I'd like to say thanks to everyone who puts up with me, my silly questions, and helps with mods.
To all other modders - keep up the good work.
